Gunditjmara

Candidate for Metro Region, Andrew Morrison

I am a proud Gunditjmara man married with 3 children. I have worked in the Aboriginal Health sector for over 20 years, in both mainstream and Aboriginal Community Controlled services. I have also been a board member on multiple Aboriginal Community controlled services.

I am committed to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal Community and I see Treaty as opportunity to improve on our social determinants of health including Housing, Education, Employment, Access to healthcare and Cultural identity.

Treaty can address the historical injustices and ongoing impacts of colonization and discrimination on Aboriginal Victorians. For many years, Aboriginal people in Victoria have been dispossessed of lands, cultures, and language, and have experienced systemic discrimination and marginalization. The treaty negotiation process should acknowledge these past wrongs and work towards reconciliation and healing.

Treaty negotiation is an opportunity to establish a new relationship between the Victorian government and Aboriginal Victorians, based on mutual respect, recognition, and self-determination.
