Jordy Mifsud

Candidate for the

Gunditjmara

My name is Jordy Mifsud.

I am a proud Peek Whurrong, Djab Whurrong and Kirrae Whurrong woman of the Gunditjmara Nation.

I am an active member of my Traditional Owner group, the Eastern Maar, and recently emceed our Native Title Consent Determination Ceremony. This was a very significant day for our people.

What I have seen through my involvement at Eastern Maar, and broader work in the Aboriginal community, is the critical importance of strong Eldership, strong governance, and a clear vision for a successful future.

This is what I want to see in the Victorian Treaty process, and why I am running as a candidate for the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria.

If we do this the right way – our way – we can achieve long-lasting health, happiness, and success for our mob, and ensure the continuation of our rich and sacred history, heritage and culture.

The right to self-determination needs to remain at the forefront of the Treaty process.

For our people to fully exercise our self-determination, we must use this unique opportunity to work together, as one, to ensure every voice is heard, and determine the best ways to achieve the greatest outcomes for our people.
