Luke Murray

Candidate for the

Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta, Dja Dja Wurrung

My name is Luke Murray and I am a Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta and Dja Dja Wurrung man who resides on the traditional djandak of the Djaara people in the beautiful regional city of Bendigo.

My family is well known and prominent in the Koori community through their tireless work in establishing community-controlled organisations and for trying to achieve justice and recognition for Aboriginal people.

I wish to be a member of the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria to bring a new voice and fresh leadership to the table and to help resolve our differences and conflicts so that we are united at the Treaty negotiating table.

My view on Treaty is that it is an opportunity to raise our standard of living, to improve our poor health outcomes and to make the future enriched for the next generation of Koori people.

I aspire for treaty to include high quality land acquisition, economic development, accountability in our community orgs and cultural affirmation by our mob connecting to country and culture. We have a right to freely hunt and gather and to practice the world’s oldest living culture.

Treaty is our opportunity to assert that Sovereignty Was Never Ceded and that We Have Survived the trauma and ramifications of colonisation.
