Matthew Burns

My name is Matthew Burns and I am a proud Taungurung man living in the inner west of Narrm (Melbourne).

In 2019 I was extremely proud and grateful to be elected as a metropolitan member to the inaugural First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (the Assembly).

During the inaugural period of the Assembly, we worked hard to develop a framework that enables self-determining Statewide and Nation based Treaties. That hard work now puts Community in a position to elect their representatives to progress a Statewide Treaty. I believe I contributed meaningfully to the inaugural Assembly and believe that I can again represent the community with pride and integrity, drawing on my previous experience and skills which will contribute to the Assembly collective.

If elected again, I believe my experience in financial services, board governance and operating a Traditional Owner organisation will be highly beneficial to the Assembly collective and the progression of Treaty negotiations.
