Zali Mifsud

Candidate for the

Peek Whurrong, Djab Whurrong, Kirrae Whurrong

My name is Zali Kirrae Mifsud.

I am a proud Peek Whurrong, Djab Whurrong and Kirrae Whurrong woman of the Maar Nation.

My tribal name is Tirrike. This represents ‘happiness and hope’.

I was born On-Country.

My apical Ancestor is Alice Dixon, my four-time grandmother.

I am a native title holder.

It’s my time, my opportunity, and maybe even my obligation, to stand on behalf of my community to advocate for our inherent rights, through Treaty.

This is why I am running as a candidate for the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria.

Yes, we must work hard to address historical wrongdoings, many of which are still felt today, and this I am deeply committed to, and passionate about.

I am equally committed, and passionate about our future, and our people being in control of that.

Of self-determination.

My aspirations for Treaty run wide and deep.

A healthier, happier, and stronger community.

No one left behind.

Now is the time for us to come together, for the greater good.

This is what a modern Treaty / treaties must be fully focused on, and something I will work hard to achieve.
